None of my oppressions is superior to the other so there is no hierarchy - Kabejja invites you to a conversation on Intersectional Feminism
The separability of women*’s oppression is premised on centering the essentialized experiences of relatively privileged members of oppressed groups. Historically, the experiences of Black women* have been analyzed from either the sex or race perspective. Not considering them in their wholeness, which has been detrimental to them and the society at large. If gender and racial subordination are defined against each other, then one is understood to be oppressed ‘as a woman’ to the extent that one is not oppressed as a ‘person of color.’ Nowadays, this experience can be better explained through intersectionality. Intersectional feminists examine the multiple forms of oppression and discrimination that women* face.
