German volunteers travelling to the Global South often come back with many stories and share their perception with their family, friends and the public in Germany. But they do not only talk about people in the Global South - they are also talked about as a familiar and peculiar encounter in many countries.

This presentation will unpack of volunteers are perceived by the recipient organisations and share voices from the Global South about the voluntary service. It will try to analyse the volunteer service from a postcolonial perspective.
