  • RREUSE is an international network representing social enterprises active in the circular economy, that generate invaluable social, economic and environmental impacts for their communities. Specialising in the field of re-use, repair and recycling, they provide local and inclusive employment as well as a strong sense of belonging for the most vulnerable in our societies.

As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, RREUSE will be holding its second episode of the series Let’s Get Talking on 15 September 2021 @ 11am CET.

    Format: ≈ 1hour, including a 30-45min conversation followed by a 15-20min Q&A from the floor (via Zoom)

    Language: English

In this episode, Lakshmi Narayan will be joining us all the way from India to explore the social dimension within the circular transition. The discussion will address, among others, different interpretations of what social value means, how it can be better reflected within the circular economy and how to best support it through policies and tools linked to the green transition.

Lakshmi has been working with waste pickers in Pune since 1989. She is the co-founder of the trade union Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat (KKPKP) and SWaCH. The KKPKP aims to establish and assert waste pickers’ contribution to the environment, their status as workers and their crucial role in the Solid Waste Management (SWM) of the city. Today, KKPKP has 9000 plus members, 80 per cent of whom are women from socially backward and marginalised castes.

SWaCH is a wholly-owned workers’ cooperative, as a Pro-poor Public Private Partnership, that undertakes waste management in Pune. The SWaCH door-to-door waste collection model is based on recovery of user fees from service users and provision of infrastructure and management support from the municipality also plays an enabling role.
