The construction and demolition waste (CDW) represents one of the largest waste streams within the European Union. In 2019, 25-30% of all waste generated in the EU had its origin from the construction and building sector (European Commission, 2019). According to the European Environmental Agency (2020), up to 47% of construction and demolition waste generated went to landfill in some regions within the EU in the year 2016. Under this panorama, the promotion of policies and directives addressing this problem is needed, above all, considering that 60% of the area expected to be urban by 2030 is not yet built (UN-HABITAT, 2009).
