It is community centered and brings sustainability into projects already at the design phase. There are two things I am working on for the proposal (I can send you a draft of the narrative for the institute if you'd like). First, as part of the proposal process, I am seeking to record interviews with people in Lusatia or who have moved from Lusatia (the English version of the interview request is copied below). I also am looking for a German non-commercial entity to work with, one that has experience in regional development. I have support from universities outside of Germany, but don't know so may people here. So my questions are whether you would know people who either live or lived in Lusatia that I could email an interview request, and if you have advice on how to find a German partner. Successful candidates must have outstanding accomplishments and future potential in an area related to ecosystem management in combination with a clear expertise and commitment related to protected areas and UNESCO biosphere reserves. Ecosystem-based transformation management refers to any strategic change management, which aims to maintain, restore or develop ecosystems and their functionality as a fundamental condition for land use and ecosystem services. This concept shall be explored and implemented in biosphere reserves as living labs for sustainability. A science-ecological background is indispensable as basis for this position, which must be demonstrated by means of own scientific work on ecosystems. The professor's work should be conceptually rooted in the principles of systems ecology. We expect the professorship to become an integral part of the new Biosphere Reserves Institute, and to be actively engaged in the biosphere.center, a partnership of Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development with Michael Succow Foundation and the German Association ‘Nationale Naturlandschaften’. The new professor is expected to provide inspiration and leadership in research, contribute proactively to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching (in English). Students and practitioners shall be encouraged to think innovatively about biosphere reserves. In addition, the incumbent shall establish a convincing and independent research, acquire new projects and further develop the existing networks related to biosphere reserves and ecosystem management. The successful candidate will tightly cooperate with the Eberswalde professorships for 'Nature Conservation' and 'International Nature Conservation and Social-Ecological Sustainability Processes in UNESCO Biosphere Reserves'. Further cooperation with other professorships at the faculty of Forest and Environment is wanted. Special emphasis will be given to selecting candidates who show special interest and expertise in scientific teamwork and teamteaching. Further, the candidate shall be proactive for the initiation of new projects. International working experience and contacts to Biosphere Reserves are a prerequisite. In accordance with section 41 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Brandenburg (BbgHG), the successful candidate must hold a qualified PhD, and must have particular achievements with regard to the application or development of scientific findings and methods in a minimum of three years of practical work, thereof two years outside academia. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications and projects as well as a brief concept note on research, teaching and transfer of an Institute focused on Biosphere Reserves. WECHANGE supports open source, sharing and international cooperation.   • Eva Stützel Was braucht es, um erfolgreich Gemeinschaften aufzubauen?Hierzu wurden im Global Ecovillage Network und im [Ökodorf Sieben Linden](https://www.siebenlinden.org) zwei sehr spannende Modelle entwickelt: Im Ökodorf Sieben Linden wurde der [Gemeinschaftskompass](https://gemeinschaftskompass.de) entwickelt, basierend auf der Erfahrung aus dem Aufbau Sieben Lindens, und der Beratung vieler anderer Gemeinschaftsprojekte. In einem EU-Netzwerkprojekt des Global Ecovillage Networks haben sich dann Gemeinschaftsberater:innen aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern zusammengetan, und, stark inspiriert vom Gemeinschaftskompass, das „Community Learning Incubator Program for Sustainability“, kurz CLIPS genannt, entwickelt. Der Gemeinschaftskompass identifiziert 7 Aspekte: Individuen, Gemeinschaft, Intention, Struktur, Praxis, Ernte und Welt. CLIPS beschränkt sich auf 5 Ebenen: Individuen, Gemeinschaft, Intention, Struktur und Praxis. Das, was im Kompass extra als Ernte und Welt dargestellt wird, ist in CLIPS in den anderen Ebenen subsummiert. Inhaltlich sind sich beide Modelle sehr ähnlich, und sie inspirieren sich auch methodenmäßig dank der intensiven Zusammenarbeit der europäischen Gemeinschaftsberater:innen im CLIPS-Projekt.   • Helmut Wolman Förderprojekt: FairSync - Schnittstelle zwischen Nachhaltigkeitskarten und Engagementführern*English below* Dank einer Förderung durch Transform_D kommt neuer Schwung in das Schnittstellennetzwerk FairSync, dass zwischen 2014 und 2019 in der Transition-Bewegung und den Makers4Huminity-Labs entstanden ist. ## Aktuell * sondieren wir, welche Karten und Datenbanken mit Organisationsprofilen (Projekte, Initiativen, Vereine, Unternehmen) und Terminen im ersten Schritt verbunden werden sollen * Welche technischen Standards und Erfahrungen für die Datensyncronisation von Plattformen mit beidseitiger editierbarkeit bereits existieren und hier genutzt werden sollen * Wer die technische Umsetzung machen kann und dieses OpenSource Projekt startet ## Wir wollen * Initiativen und Organisationen auf Karten und in Engagementführern sichtbarer machen und zwischen den Plattformen syncronisieren. * Für Akteure mit ihrem Engagement mit möglichst wenig Arbeit und Pflege gleichzeitig möglichst viel digitale Sichtbarkeit schaffen, die den Datenschutzbestimmungen genügen. * Suchenden auf ihren Lieblingsplattformen möglichst vollständige Übersichten zur Transformationsprojekten bieten. ## Lösungsansatz Lösen wollen wir das Problem durch die Programmierung von zwei technologieoffenen und plattformunabhängigen Modulen: 1. Wir entwickeln ein **Schnittstellenmodul** zum Verbinden perspektivisch aller Nachhaltigkeitskarten, Engagementführern und Vernetzungsplattformen, sodass Initiativen und nachhaltige Orte auf allen beteiligten Plattformen gefunden werden können. Schnittstellen (REST-API, Activity-Pub etc.) sind längst etabliert und die meisten Plattformen bieten dies auch schon an, nur bisher nicht kompatibel zueinander. 2. Parallel entwickeln wir ein intelligentes **Dubletten-Erkennungs-Modul**, denn die entscheidende Herausforderung in diesem Datenbank-Netzwerk ist die digital-automatisierte Filterung von doppelten Inhalten, damit Nutzende auf allen beteiligten Plattform jede Initiative und jede Veranstaltung nur einmal finden, auch wenn sie auf mehreren Portale unabhängig voneinander eingetragen oder bearbeitet wurde. ## Mitmachen Beginnen werden wir dafür mit den Plattformen der OpenStreetMap als größte Creativ-Commons-Karte der Welt, mit der Karte von morgen (reine Nachhaltigkeitskarte mit Suchfunktion), dem Mitwirk-O-Mat (spielerischer Engagementführer) und wechange.de (Plattform zur digitalen Zusammenarbeit unter Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen). Create as much digital visibility as possible for actors with their engagement with as little work and maintenance as possible at the same time that complies with data protection regulations. Provide searchers with the most complete overviews of transformation projects on their favourite platforms. ## Solution We want to solve the problem by programming two technology-open and platform-independent modules. 1. we develop an **interface module** to connect perspectively all sustainability maps, engagement guides and networking platforms, so that initiatives and sustainable places can be found on all participating platforms. Interfaces (REST API, activity pub, etc.) have long been established and most platforms already offer this, but so far they have not been compatible with each other. 2. In parallel, we are developing an intelligent **duplicate detection module**, because the decisive challenge in this database network is the digitally automated filtering of duplicate content, so that users can find each initiative and each event only once on all participating platforms, even if it has been entered or edited independently on several portals. ## Join us To this end, we will start with the platforms of OpenStreetMap as the largest creative commons map in the world, the Map of Tomorrow (pure sustainability map with search function), the Mitwirk-O-Mat (playful engagement guide) and wechange.de (platform for digital collaboration among sustainability initiatives).   • Lilian Pungas Conference: 24/25 April @Berlin- Making the Planetary Boundaries Concept Work*** https://pb-conference2017.de/ *** Environmental pressures are rapidly increasing worldwide, with mounting risks for sustainable development. To allow future generations to live in dignity and peace, humanity needs to operate within a safe operating space delineated by the planetary boundaries. Developed by a group of international researchers led by Johan Rockström, the concept has increasingly gained prominence internationally, regionally and nationally. But challenges remain: From the perspective of the German Federal Environment Ministry, the German Environment Agency and the German Federal Environmental Foundation, the core task and opportunity is to politically, socially and economically shape the safe operating space. For this purpose, fundamental changes towards a sustainable economy and society are necessary. In order for the planetary boundaries concept to assume a guiding role in such a transformation, important questions need to be addressed: How can we further improve the scientific justification of the internationally recognised concept? How can we apply the concept to national environmental and sustainability policies and policy-making? Which opportunities provided by the concept arise for technical, economical and social innovations, for corporate risk and corporate environmental management, for environmental education and communication? This international conference will address these aspects. Its goal is to bring together central actors of a sustainability transformation to generate an agenda for the concept’s further application in academia, for governments, the private sector, civil society and media. The conference is hosted by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Society (BMUB), the German Environment Agency (UBA) and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). It is organized by adelphi, the Potsdam Institute for Climate-Impact Research and the Stockholm Environment Institute and supported by the Stockholm Resilience Centre, PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Forum Nachhaltige Geldanlagen.
