  • Roof-top Info Amriddin Avolatshoev sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in a half-day trialOn April 29, 2022, Amriddin Avolatshoev was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment, according to a Radio Ozodi [article](https://rus.ozodi.org/a/31827062.html). Avolatshoev is a prominent community organizer among the Tajik diaspora from GBAO in Russia and was one of the main organizers of the demonstration in front of the Embassy of Tajikistan in Moscow in solidarity of the protest in Khorugh in November 2021. He was arrested in Russia on January 11, 2021, extradicted to Tajikistan and forcibly disappeared. The [Civil Society Coalition Against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan](https://notorturetj.org/news/tadzhikistan-amriddin-alovatshoev-nahoditsya-pod-riskom-primeneniya-pytok) and [Human Rights Watch](https://www.hrw.org/news/2022/02/07/tajikistan-restore-internet-autonomous-region) raised concerns regarding the risk of torture and a doubted a fair trial. According to the Radio Ozodi [article](https://rus.ozodi.org/a/31827062.html), Avolatshoev was convicted of alleged hostage-taking in a half-day trial to which his family had no access. His lawyers were informed late about the upcoming trial.

Erfreulich war, dass uns wieder über die Spendenplattform betterplace. org Gelder erreichten, es waren 555,75 Euro. Nun sind 93 Prozent von den anvisierten 6.000 Euro erreicht. Nur noch 419,24 Euro fehlen für den Zieleinlauf. Spenden darüber hinaus gehen in die »Aktion 2019« ein, die im November starten wird. Inzwischen möchten wir uns einmal sehr herzlich bei allen Spenderinnen und Spendern bedanken.   • Roof-top Info SUMMARY May 22, 2022: Community leader Mamadbokirov assassinated by Tajikistani security forcesOn 5.59 pm Dushanbe time, [Pamir Daily News](https://t.me/pamirdailynews/804) reported that the community leader Mamadbokir Mamadbokirov had been killed by Tajikistani special forces in Khorugh shortly before. According to the most detailed [report](https://t.me/pamirdailynews/820) about the assassination, Mamadbokirov was walking through the neighbourhood Boinya (between Barkhorugh and UPD neighbourhoods), insisting to go without company and defenceless, when four gunmen went out of a Pickup vehicle, encircled him and opened fire at him without any warning. Mamadbokirov was fatally wounded and died at the spot. One accidental passer-by was fatally shot when trying to save him and another person was seriously injured. Mamadbokirov had been one of the few field commanders of the United Tajik Opposition during the civil war of the 1990ies who hand not been eliminated by the authorities yet. He had been at odds with the central government and GBAO Governor Mirzonabot, and there had been allegations about his involvement in questionable cross-border business practices. Nevertheless, he had depicted himself as a defender of the autonomy of the region and still claimed significant authority and trust among some segments of the population of GBAO, particularly in his stronghold Barkhorugh in North-east Khorugh. His authority seemed to have decreased over the years, as younger and more civilian leaders were emerging. However, it had increased again recently as the authorities had ignored and discredited more moderate leaders and exacerbated solidarity with Mamadbokirov by explicitely targeting him as their main foe. At the checkpoints between the districts in GBAO, only traffic police was checking documents, whereas a few days before there had also been soldiers checking the passengers' luggage. At the same time, security forces continued systematically arresting informal power brokers and close relatives of informal power brokers who had already been assassinated or detained, as reported by [Russian political scientist Serenko](https://t.me/anserenko/4578). Serenko drew attention to the legal flaws and the high number of Pamiri inmates. He issued a warning that the authorities might be preparing a staged prison rebellion to create a pretext for killing Pamiri inmates, following the example of the killing of detained leaders of the oppositional Party of Islamic Renaissance in 2018. The [Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders](https://www.fidh.org/en/issues/human-rights-defenders/tajikistan-arbitrary-detention-of-lawyers-manuchehr-kholiknazarov) issued a statement on the detention of members of the "Commission of 44", which had been formed during the November 2021 protests in Khorugh to intermediate with the authorities and investigate the suspected extrajudicial killings together with them. It "strongly condemns the arbitrary detention of Manuchehr Kholiknazarov, Faromuz Irgashov and Khursand Mamadshoev and urges the authorities in Tajikistan to immediately and unconditionally release them and to put an end to the judicial harassment against them. The Observatory calls on the authorities to put an immediate end to the violence and excessive and unlawful use of force against peaceful protesters and human rights defenders in Tajikistan." After the international UN conference "Water for Sustainable Development", which took place in Dushanbe on June 6-9, 2022, amidst [calls for boycott](https://www.change.org/stay-out-of-bloody-waters), youth representatives who had attended the event released a [statement](https://www.aguasapim.com/en/post/the-youth-calls-for-peace-in-the-mountains) according to whicht they "stand in solidarity with Pamiri peoples, who face similar challenges to that of traditional peoples in many parts of the world. We have heard the deafening silence about the violence that is taking place in your home and we will not comply."

Stay Grounded Network demands funding for just transition and climate jobs. Vienna, 18th of March 2020: Today, an extraordinary meeting by EU transport ministers discusses the multiple demands by the aviation industry to cover their losses through Covid-19 with public money. The international Stay Grounded network, consisting of 157 member organisations, in a letter to the transport ministers, opposes these bailouts and instead demands public funding to be provided to take care of people, not airlines. "While we are all in shock, huge sums of taxpayers' money might be given to prop up environmentally damaging industries. Let's not bail out shareholders and executives who have spent years lining their pockets, while hundreds of thousands of small businesses, owner-operated restaurants and creative artists go out of business. Crisis requires solidarity - let's wash our hands of the virus, not responsibility", says Magdalena Heuwieser from Stay Grounded. "It is unacceptable that the industry's profits are privatised, while it expects its losses to be covered by the public." The airline industry has a history of tax avoidance and of seeking and obtaining special treatment while treating workers badly. According to Stay Grounded, the current situation requires collaborative planning for a just transition: employees in the aviation sector should receive training for climate friendly jobs, privatisations have to be reconsidered, and a shift towards climate-safe forms of travel has to be undertaken. It is no option to go back to business as usual after the Covid-19 crisis, as this would lead to an even bigger crisis. "As bad as the Coronavirus is, its outcome will look like a bad cold compared to the consequences of the climate crisis, with entire countries on fire or underwater, mass starvation and forced migration", says Magdalena Heuwieser. "If we can act collectively to stop thousands of deaths from the virus, surely we can do so to stop the millions predicted from climate disaster. Let's use this unintended pause in air travel to rethink what we can do to stop far worse consequences from climate collapse, and flying's contribution to it". The airline industry has made a fortune over the past decades, with higher growth rates than most other economic sectors - combined with soaring emissions. Aviation is already responsible for 5-8% of climate heating worldwide, when we include the climate impacts additional to the CO2. This is a huge portion, given that about 90% of the world population has never set foot on an airplane. Text: To European Nation States, the US, Canada, China, India, Japan, South Korea and all other importers of Russian oil and gas, We, the undersigned groups and organizations, stand in steadfast solidarity with the courageous people of Ukraine who are fighting not only for their own freedom and self-determination but for a worthwhile world. The invasion of Ukraine by Russian Federation forces under the direction of Vladimir Putin is a clear war against Ukrainian sovereignty and independence as well as a grave violation of human rights, international law, and global peace. This invasion confronts Europe with its darkest hours of the 21st century, and confronts the world with a grimmer future. But it's exactly these times that require us all to stand up, stand firm, stand united and take bold action against the forces who willingly threaten our collective existence! We call on you, our political deputies, to do exactly that. Do everything in your powers to stop Putin and his war machine, restore peace, and end this egregious murderous aggression. Enough is enough! The regime of Vladimir Putin is the clear and sole aggressor in this illegal war, and bears full responsibility for the atrocities committed by its war machine. It is equally clear that this war machine has been funded, fed, and fueled by the coal, oil and gas industries that are driving both the invasion that threatens Ukraine and the climate crisis that threatens humanity’s future. And the world’s fossil fuel addiction, in turn, is funding Putin’s warmongering — putting not only Ukraine but Europe itself at risk. Putin has deliberately weaponised fossil gas to increase his existing energy dominance over the European Union and to threaten European nations that would come to Ukraine’s aid. This needs to stop! We call on you to urgently work with your European colleagues on ending this fossil fuel addiction once and for all. We also call upon the governments of the countries outside Europe to reject and ban any import of fossil fuels from Russia and rapidly phase out all fossil fuels. Stop all trade and end investment in Gazprom, Rosneft, Transneft, Surgutneftegas, LukOil, Russian Coal and others, freeze the assets of such companies outside Russia, as well as freezing other Russian fossil-fuel assets. Western companies have to stop fossil fuel production in Russia. Putin’s income streams must be dried out as soon as possible – this also includes tackling direct and indirect investment into fossil fuel infrastructure in Russia (for example through export credit guarantees). However, it is imperative that the world not simply replace Russian-produced fossil fuels (in particular fossil gas) with fossil fuels from other countries (in particular liquefied natural gas). With an emerging priority of boycotting Russian oil and gas, fossil fuel expansion must be immediately halted, and nations worldwide must commit to the rapid and just transition away from all fossil fuels. Reliance on coal, oil and gas is the intentional embrace of death, misery, and collapse at a global scale. It is our duty to finally get real about that if we want to have a liveable future! A different tomorrow is feasible. A tomorrow free from Putin and other petro-dictators. A tomorrow free from climate-hostile and war-feeding fossil fuels. A vital and urgent step towards that future is the unequivocal support for the Ukrainian people, which should also include a commitment for a green recovery of Ukraine from the war ashes. Help us deliver that earnest support by also purposefully tackling Putin’s war budget and by taking bold steps towards the radical decarbonisation of our societies. Ukraine and Ukrainians are entitled to expect that support. Our joint, brighter future demands nothing less.
